AI: The Engine of the Next Industrial Revolution

We believe AI represents the next industrial revolution, unlocking previously unimaginable performance improvements and capabilities. The UK is a world leader in AI innovation, and its start-ups are poised to deliver accelerated, above-market returns.

Understanding AI: From Foundations to Frontiers

AI is an umbrella term that covers a range of technologies designed to replicate or augment human intelligence. Over time, it has evolved into distinct categories:

Artificial Intelligence (AI): Any machine-based method that demonstrates intelligent behaviour.

Machine Learning (ML): Algorithms that improve over time by learning from data patterns.

Deep Learning (DL): A subset of ML using neural networks with many layers—especially powerful for complex pattern recognition.

Generative AI (GenAI): The newest frontier, using models like Transformers to create new content—text, images, code, and beyond.

These systems work across a broad spectrum of intelligent capabilities and together form the foundations for machines that don’t just process but think, adapt and generate.
